In less than two weeks, we will be off on our mission to Uganda with Hope 4 Kids International. I continue to be surprised with the number of dresses I collected to take with me. I thought 100 was a mighty goal and today have packed over 300 to take. Each package includes a pillowcase dress, a new pair of underwear and a yarn prayer doll. The Kiwanis in Orange lovingly made over 60 dresses. My congregation at North Coast Church in Vista made over 80 dresses. Holy Name of Mary in San Dimas donated 150 dresses and drove them to Arizona. According to our tentative schedule, the first day we will be "Dressing a Girl" is Friday, July 2, 2010 in the Bugiri district during a dedication of a water well made possible by American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prescott, Arizona. There is nothing like witnessing first hand the difference fresh water makes to a village and being part of this celebration should be heartwarming. There will be many other opportunities during the 2 weeks there. Thank you again to each and every one of you who made dresses, donated girls underwear and made dolls.
I am not certain how much time or Internet connection I will have while in Uganda but I will try to update this blog every few days during my trip.
